07 / FAQ

Common questions.

Anything else, call 780-714-1777.

What is a T-bar ceiling?

A T-bar ceiling, also called a suspended or drop ceiling, is a metal grid hung on wires below the structure and filled with lay-in tiles, usually 2 by 2 or 2 by 4 feet. It hides ductwork, wiring and sprinkler lines while keeping them reachable. MJNI Projects installs and repairs T-bar ceilings across Fort McMurray.

Can you replace stained or broken ceiling tiles?

Yes. Ceiling repairs are part of MJNI's property maintenance and small-jobs work: stained or broken tiles, sagging or bent grid, and tiles that need cutting around new fixtures. Send a photo of the ceiling and the tile size with your request so MJNI can bring the right material.

When does the ceiling go in on a fit-out?

On a typical commercial fit-out, the T-bar grid goes up after the walls are boarded and the overhead rough-in, meaning ductwork, sprinkler lines and wiring, is in place. Lights and diffusers drop into the grid next, and the tiles go in last. MJNI coordinates the ceiling with the other trades.

Which ceiling tiles do you install?

Lay-in ceiling tiles come in different sizes, edge details, acoustic ratings and moisture ratings, and the right one depends on the room. MJNI installs the tile and grid your drawings or spec call for, and can match existing tiles when only part of a ceiling is being replaced.
