Does a Fort McMurray contractor take tenant improvements in Edmonton?

MJNI does. Edmonton is about 435 km from Fort McMurray on Highway 63, which was twinned in 2016, and MJNI is taking commercial interior projects there: tenant improvements, renovations, steel stud and drywall, T-bar ceilings and flooring. Call to talk through the scope, the schedule and the site.

Can interior demolition start before an Edmonton building permit is issued?

Sometimes. The City of Edmonton says no work may start on commercial interior alterations until the building permit is issued, but a Selective Interior Demolition Permission can let some interior demolition go ahead while the permit is processed. The City notes that it is not a full building permit.

Does an interior renovation in Edmonton need a development permit?

Not if the business activity stays the same. The City of Edmonton's process chart sends interior renovations with no change to business activities to building permit review, while a change of business activity or exterior changes go through a development permit. Interior alterations have their own short-form permit application.
